Catching His First Big Squid in Prince William Sound!

A successful squidding trip to Prince William Sound during the early summer of 2024. Prince William Sound is known for its diverse marine life and deep glacial fjords, which provide an ideal habitat for various squid species. In this clip, Connor learns the technique of squid jigging and successfully pulls in a large Magister Armhook squid.

Magister Armhook squid are typically found in very deep water, ranging from 800 to over 1200 feet. They are named for the small hooks found within their suction cups, which they use to grasp prey in the dark depths of the North Pacific. Jigging for these creatures requires patience and a specific rhythmic motion to attract them to the lure. The footage captures the squid's distinctive appearance as it is brought to the surface, highlighting its vibrant colors and textures. For many Alaskan anglers, squidding offers a fun and challenging alternative to traditional finfish angling, set against the spectacular backdrop of the Chugach Mountains and the coastal wilderness of Southcentral Alaska.
