Sunset over Cook Inlet, Alaska from our home’s deck
The view from our deck never gets old, especially during the winter months when the sunsets are this intense. This video captures the vibrant orange and pink hues as they stretch across the sky and reflect off the partially frozen waters of the Cook Inlet. You can see the ice starting to build up along the shoreline, which is a constant change during this time of year.
Looking across the inlet, the silhouettes of the volcanoes in Lake Clark National Park are sharp against the horizon. The way the light hits the snow-capped peaks creates a dramatic contrast with the deepening colors of the evening. These winter sunsets are a favorite part of living on the Kenai Peninsula—the air is crisp, the water is calm, and the entire landscape seems to glow. It’s a quiet, powerful reminder of why we love the Alaskan wilderness and the unique beauty that each season brings to our home.
