Fireweed on Beaches | Longing for Summer on Hesketh Island, Alaska

Fireweed in full bloom sways above the beach on Hesketh Island as the sun melts behind Yukon Island and Elephant Rock, our boat resting quietly in the background, the whole scene framed by one of Alaska's most stunning waterways. Shot handheld from Porter's Cabin #3, this is the kind of evening that makes you forget what day it is.

If you haven't been to Porter's Alaskan Adventures, Zach, Becky, and family have built something truly special on the privately owned eastern tip of Hesketh Island. Just 7 miles from the Homer Spit and a scenic ride across Kachemak Bay aboard the Dreamchaser. The handmade log cabins are very comfortable with great amenities, the wood-fired beach sauna is fired up daily for guests, and the wildlife practically comes to you. Otters, seals, whales, bald eagles, and seabirds (Oystercatchers, too) right at your doorstep. No frills, no crowds.
